Movistar internet: Since 2018, most utilities in Spain can finally be paid and domiciled from foreign bank accounts. The big exception to this were the telecom operators, including Spain’s largest Telefonica/Movistar. But there is HUGE good news!!! From now (September 2021) Movistar also accepts foreign bank accounts for direct debits for internet and telephony subscriptions!

So no more looking for alternatives if you don’t have or don’t want to have a Spanish bank account. Personally, I am of the opinion that this is a very good move by Movistar that will undoubtedly bring them a lot of new customers.

Please note: it has been confirmed by Movistar that from now on a subscription can be taken out for all new Movistar internet customers and that the direct debit of the payments can be made to your EURO bank account. So still not for any account in Sterling.

It is a bit more difficult for existing Movistar customers, the system is not yet ready and for some customers/subscriptions it will be possible to switch, for some unfortunately not. However, we have not received more specific information about this.

You can consult the current offer of Movistar internet here: https://www.movistar.es/

Would you like us to convert your utilities and/or internet subscription to your European bank account? Please contact us and we will be happy to explain how this is possible without you having to be present here, we will arrange everything for you!

This means that the last stumbling block for those who still doubted whether to keep or cancel their Spanish bank account permanently disappears if you have Movistar as the provider for your internet subscription in Spain. Speaking of good news… !
